The IRS made an announcement to more than 650,000 small tax-exempt organization that they may be required to submit a new annual notice, Form 990-N.

With the new Pension Protection Act of 2006, the majority of small tax-exempt organizations are now required to submit form 990-N. In the past, tax-exempt organization with gross receipts of $25,000 or less were not required to submit information returns. The IRS states that tax-exempt organizations should not ignore this new filing requirement, or they will risk losing their tax-exempt status. This new required begins in 2008.
